Volunteers sorters and packers use the donations from the Churches to make up starter packs and bedding packs packs in response to referrals from

Working with Starter Packs Dundee has given me an insight into the difficulties people have settling back into society after having been out of it for a while. Starter Packs Dundee helps people wanting to make a fresh start. it makes their money go further and so helps them to pay the rent, feed themselves and keep warm.
I can see that Starter Packs Dundee gives people who are low a boost - just to know that someone cares about them encourages them

When making up ‘starter packs’ we always try to find items suitable for the ages and family situations of the clients. For example I would not give a man or boy frilly, flowery bedding but would lay it aside for a lady or a girl and where children are involved then I try to find things appropriate to them.
I also act as a volunteer contact in my church. The congregation of Balgay Church, like most of the churches in Dundee, is very supportive. I get phone calls continually asking me to collect donations, or people turn up at my door with their parcels. Quite often my spare room looks like a GPO sorting office!

We really appreciate and rely on the continued efforts of all the contacts to encourage people not to “bin” household goods for which they have no further use. It’s lovely to meet them when the come to hand in donations and it also gives us a chance to let them know what we are running short of face cloths, all cleaning materials and tooth brushes are always in demand
